Ciao Renzo, ci racconti qualcosa del tuo uomo d’arme e della tua delegazione?

"Renzo di Ezio de’ Semprini nasce nel 1420 presso uno dei tanti campi di battaglia in cui il padre è impegnato al seguito del celebre condottiero Micheletto Attendolo Sforza, dal quale è ben voluto tanto da poter inserire la propria impresa personale assieme all’ondulato sforzesco. Concessione riservata solo ai più valenti e degni di fiducia. Lo Sforza accoglie con gioia la notizia di questa nascita e vuole il pargolo al proprio servizio non appena l’età lo renda possibile.  Nel 1432 infatti, appena dodicenne, lo troviamo nella famosa battaglia di San Romano. Ancora troppo giovane per entrare in campo, ma di certo con una buona formazione. Le occasioni arrivano qualche anno più tardi. All’età di sedici anni è in sella al fianco del padre nelle tante operazioni militari per conto dello Sforza. Nel 1440 il suo nome è reso celebre dalle cronache della battaglia di Anghiari che segna il trionfo della Repubblica fiorentina ed il definitivo allontanamento della minaccia viscontea dai propri territori.  Qui il nostro uomo d’arme si distingue per l’audacia, l’ardore, il valore delle gesta in campo, tanto che Cosimo dei Medici e Piero dopo di lui lo richiedono come campione per rappresentare la Repubblica presso i vari tornei cortesi dell’epoca. La delegazione di Renzo de’ Semprini è composta da madonna Irene de’ Preti nobildonna fiorentina sua consorte, dal “Ceppatello” valente ed inseparabile famiglio, compagno di tante battaglie, da monna Dianora colta e raffinata dama al seguito di madonna Irene e dal virtuoso “Gattolo”, istrionico araldo le cui abilità oratorie sono ben note presso tutte le corti della penisola."

Hi Renzo, what can you tell us about your man-at-arms and your delegation?

"Renzo di Ezio de’ Semprini was born in 1420 on one of the many battlefields where his father was part of the retinue of the famous leader Micheletto Attendolo Sforza, by whom he was so well-liked that he was able to include his own personal enterprise within the Sforza, something that was reserved only for the most talented and trustworthy. Sforza warmly welcomed the news of this birth and wanted the child to be at his service as soon as he reached an appropriate age. So, in 1432, as soon as he turned 12 years old, he was part of the famous San Romano battle. He was still too young to set foot on the battlefield, but was already very well trained. Opportunities would come a few years later. By 16 years old, he was riding alongside his father in many military operations on behalf of Sforza. In 1440, his name was made famous by the chronicles of the battle of Anghiari, which marked the triumph of the Florentine Republic and the definitive removal of the Visconti threats from its territories. Our man-at-arms was recognised for his audacity, passion and the merits of his accomplishments on the battlefield, so much so that Cosimo dei Medici and then Piero requested him as a champion to represent the Republic in numerous tournaments of the time.

Renzo de’ Semprini’s delegation includes Lady Irene de’ Preti Florentine noblewoman consort, “Ceppatello” the valiant and inseparable servant, Lady Dianora our cultured and refined dame of the retinue of Lady Irene, and the virtuous “Gattolo” our theatrical herald whose oratory skills are well known throughout the peninsula."

Hai già partecipato al TORNEOINARMATURA, cosa ti spinge a partecipare a questa nuova edizione?

"Ciò che mi spinge ad iscrivermi al TORNEOINARMATURA ad ogni edizione è la sua unicità. Un evento complesso dove l’aspetto marziale, per quanto importante, è solo una parte del tutto. Ricostruzione storica di altissimo livello dove condivisione e confronto portano ad un costante miglioramento personale. Per due giorni un’immersione totale in ciò che amiamo fare. Un’altra dimensione in compagnia di amici, “vecchi” e nuovi, con cui condividere emozioni."

You’ve participated in TORNEOINARMATURA before, what encouraged you to participate in this event again?

"The thing that encourages me sign up for every edition of TORNEOINARMATURA is the event’s uniqueness. It a complex event where the military aspect, although very important, is only a part of the entire event. The historical reenactments are of the highest quality where sharing and competition lead to constant personal improvement. It’s two days of full immersion in what we love doing, in another dimension in the company of friends both “old” and new who we share emotions with."

Cosa ne pensi della formula dell’evento senza pubblico dedicato solo ai reenactors?

"Credo che la formula dell’evento senza pubblico sia un valore aggiunto ed abbia contribuito ad accrescerne ulteriormente la qualità ed unicità."

What do you think of the event’s formula dedicated solely to re-enactors without an audience?

"I think the formula of the event without the public has a lot of added value and contributes to even more growth in quality and uniqueness."

Sei l’attuale RE D’AMORE, quanto conta per te la parte del cerimoniale durante questo evento?

"Il cerimoniale riveste dal mio punto di vista un ruolo fondamentale, senza il quale il torneo non avrebbe ragione di essere. Ne è il fulcro. Tutto ruota attorno ad esso e ne viene disciplinato."

You’re the current King of Love, how important is the ceremonial aspect of this event for you? 

"In my opinion, the ceremony plays a fundamental role, and without it the tournament would have no reason to exist. It is its fulcrum. Everything revolves around it and is disciplined by it."

Conosci già alcuni degli altri uomini d’arme? Chi temi di più? Vuoi fare un pronostico sul vincitore?

"Conosco la maggior parte degli uomini d’arme e sarò felice di fare nuove conoscenze. Ogni avversario ha la propria indole e le proprie abilità. E’un gioco in cui subentrano tante variabili. Difficile fare previsioni."

Do you already know some of the other men-at-arms? Who do you fear most? Would you like to make any predictions about a winner?

"I know most of the men-at-arms and I look forward to meeting others. Every opponent has their own temperament and abilities. It’s a game with many variables, so it’s difficult to make a prediction."
