Ciao Nicolas ci racconti qualcosa del tuo uomo d'arme e della tua delegazione?
"Abbiamo scelto di rappresentare la delegazione della Savoia poichè in seguito ai miei studi per la tesi di dottorato ho imparato a conoscere la storia del Ducato e ad amare i personaggi che andiamo a rappresentare. La dama sarà Marguerita, figlia di Luigi I, mentre l'uomo d'arme sarà Pietro di Lussemburgo, suo marito, che fù un giostratore molto conosciuto prima di divenire lui stesso Duca di Lussemburgo, dopo che la morte del padre e dei fratelli in guerra. Pietro non immaginava che sarebbe divenuto Principe e durante il Torneoinarmatura ricostruiamo la sua figura prima della sua ascesa al ruolo di Duca. "
Hi Nicolas, What can you tell us about your man-at-arms and your delegation?
"We’ve decided to represent the Savoia delegation because, through my research for my doctorate dissertation, I've come to understand the history of the Duchy and to love the characters that represent it. Our dame will be Marguerita, daughter of Louis I, whereas our man-at-arms will be Peter of Luxembourg, her husband, who was a well-known jouster before becoming the Duke of Luxembourg after his father and brothers died in war. Peter never would have imagined that he would become Prince and during the Torneoinarmatura we will present the image of him before his rise to the role of Duke."
Hai già partecipato al Torneoinarmatura, cosa ti spinge a partecipare a questa nuova edizione?
"Sono sempre interessato a partecipare al Torneo per la qualità dell'evento, sia a livello di delegazioni che a livello di rievocazione durante l'evento, senza dimenticare l'aspetto umano e l'amicizia che ci lega a molti dei partecipanti. Per noi è diventata ormai una tradizione e speriamo ogni volta di essere scelti tra le delegazioni che richiedono di partecipare."
You’ve participated in Torneoinarmatura before, what encouraged you to participate in this new edition?
"I'm always interested in participating in Torneoinarmatura because of its quality, both in terms of the delegations and the re-enactment during the event, without overlooking the human aspect and friendships that bind many of us participants. For us, it has now become a tradition and we hope to always be chosen among the delegations that request to participate."
Cosa ne pensi della formula dell'evento senza pubblico dedicato solo ai reenactor?
"È totalmente diverso, porta una altro ambito poiché siamo tra di noi e senza influenze esterne moderne, mi piace avere pubblico ma questa formula permette veramente di immergersi completamente nella storia."
What do you think of the event’s formula dedicated solely to re-enactors without an audience?
"It’s totally different, it brings on a different atmosphere because it’s just us without external modern influences. I like having an audience but this formula truly allows us to immerse ourselves entirely in the history."
Sei stato Re d’Amore e ad ogni edizione avete sorpreso tutti con i vostri apparati, quanto conta per voi, in questo evento, la parte del cerimoniale?
"Per me è stato quasi più importante essere eletto Re d’Amore che vincere il Torneo, conosco l’importanza all'epoca data al cerimoniale tanto da divenire essenziale per i partecipanti distinguersi ed eccellere nella ricchezza e portamento della propria delegazione e figura. Il cerimoniale per noi è la parte più importante, e questo aspetto secondo me è l'ingrediente distintivo del Torneoinarmatura "
You’ve been nominated the King of Love and at every edition you always surprise us with your equipment, how important is the ceremonial part of the event for you all?
"For me, it’s almost more important to be elected King of Love than winning the tournament. I know the importance given to the ceremony at that time, so much so that it has become essential for the participants to set themselves apart and excel in the wealth and presence of their delegation and character. For us, the ceremony is the most important part, and in my opinion this aspect is the defining characteristic of Torneoinarmatura."
Hai partecipato ed organizzi eventi in tutta Europa, hai modo di confrontarti con altri reenactor sul Torneoinarmatura? puoi dirci quali sono le domande più frequenti?
"Quando parliamo del Torneo a ricostruttori che non hanno mai partecipato rimangono affascinati e hanno mille idee (spesso sbagliate o fuori dalla realtà ). Molti vogliono sapere come partecipare e avere informazioni sul livello di ricostruzione. Molti pensano che i combattimenti sono da affrontare in maniera aggressiva e brutale mentre in realtà è molto più importante l'aspetto tecnico."
You’ve participated in and organised events all around Europe, have you ever had the chance to discuss Torneoinarmatura with other re-enactors? What are some of the most common questions?
"Then we talk about Torneo to re-enactors who have never participated in it, they’re always fascinated and have tons of ideas (often bad or unrealistic ones). Many want to know how to participate and get information about the level of reconstruction. Many think that the fights should be done aggressively and brutally, whereas actually the technical aspect is more important."
Conosci già alcuni degli altri uomini d'arme? chi temi di più? vuoi fare un pronostico sul vincitore?
"Conosco quasi tutti gli uomini d'arme e ho potuto incontrarli in combattimento. Non vedo l’ora di incontrare Alberto Merendi, il vincitore dell’edizione precedente. L’incontro con il mio collega Tobias Capwell è stato molto interessante e molto tecnico. Aspetto di incontrare il mio amico Angel Rodriguez, della Delegazione Catalana. Ma direi che ogni uomo d’arme ha la sua personalità e mi piacerà molto di ritrovarli non solo dentro lo steccato per un incontro, ma anche per l'amicizia che ci lega. Non posso fare pronostici, poiché il risultato ogni anno è stato sorprendente."
Do you already know some of the other men-at-arms? Who do you fear most? Would you like to make any predictions about a winner?
"I know almost all the men-at-arms and I got to meet them in combat. I can’t wait to meet Alberto Merendi, the winner of the previous edition. The encounter with my colleague Tobia Capwell was very interesting and very technical. I look forward to meeting my friend Angel Rodriguez, from the Catalana Delegation. But I’d say every man-at-arms has his own personality and I look forward to seeing them not only inside the fence but also because of the friendship that binds us. I can’t really make a prediction because every year the outcome is surprising."
